Sodium carbonate is an alkali metal carbonate used in the manufacturing of flat glass and other glass products, as a food additive in the production of Chinese noodles and konjac, and as a raw material for pharmaceutical formulations (Japanese Pharmacopoeia). Grades include Japanese Pharmacopoeia (for manufacturing only), reagent special grade, reagent first grade, food additives, and pure anhydrous sodium carbonate.
